About the Author

Dr. Steven Beebe is Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies at Texas State University. Dr. Beebe is serving in his 28th year as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies. He has served as Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication for 25 years. He is the author and co-author of twelve books, with most books in multiple editions.� He has authored or co-authored more than 60 articles and book chapters and made more than 150 presentations at regional, national, and international conferences.

Steve has been a visiting scholar at both Oxford University and Cambridge University and is a member of the Common Room of Wolfson College, Oxford University.� He has given lectures and presentations in Europe, Australia, Asia, South America and has made 14 trips to Russia where he has been instrumental in establishing the first communication courses there.

Dr. Beebe teaches courses in small group communication, communication training and development, pubic speaking, interpersonal communication and C. S. Lewis. He made international headlines in 2009 when he discovered a manuscript in the Oxford University library that was the opening chapter of a book that was to be co-authored by C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien.� He teaches a course about C. S. Lewis and Communication at Oxford University.

He was named Outstanding Communication Professor in America by the National Speaker’s Association, and has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Research, and the President’s Award for Excellence in Service—the highest research and service awards at Texas Stat.� Steve was also named Honors Professor of the Year at Texas State.� Steve and his wife Sue were named Outstanding Alumni by their Alma Mater, the University of Central Missouri.� He is currently President of the National Communication Association, the largest professional communication association in the world.

Dr. John Masterson is Executive Vice President and Provost emeritus of Texas Lutheran University.� He has taught Communication courses for over 30 years and has presented or published dozens of papers and articles as well as four books co-authored with Steven Beebe.� He has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors for his teaching, his scholarship, and his service.

Well-rounded text for group members at any level.

Communication is a very nuanced subject that requires years of experience and a continued desire for further refinements. In their book "Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices" authors Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson break down the technicalities of communication in small groups and teams and provide specific recommendations for improvement. "Communicating in Small Groups" was by far one of the most approachable texts in communication that I have ever encountered.

Beebe and Masterson break down the elements of group communication into digestible pieces that allow the reader to understand not only theory behind each element, but also the practice. The concepts are presented in three parts: "Foundations of Group and Team Communication", "Managing Group and Team Relationships", and "Managing Group and Team Tasks". Each segment of the text features examples of the ideas presented along with case studies that allow the reader to practice the concepts in context.

As with any textbook, the information is catered to a school audience (college-level in this particular example), but the text is approachable enough for use in any type of business training environment. Additionally the book provides a solid foundation for individuals looking to become more civically engaged by providing key leadership training, group participation advice, and examples on how to foster creative solutions. The information is easy to comprehend and the text is well referenced. I would recommend "Communicating in Small Groups" to anyone looking to improve their teamwork skills or those stepping into a leadership position within a group.

Purchased this book for my class of small group communications, it is a very good bood as it covers what one needs to know in small group communications, the chapters are clean but full of good information to help you become better in coimmunicating in small groups. The book has some very good case studies for you to work on and see what the results can be. It does the job very well for the course that it is used for.

A remarkable sequel

Sometimes, and im sure you have seen it in many movies and books, the sequel just doesnt have the same energy or it comes across as lacking in something. not this time, not with this story. if anything i would describe Erin as grander and more explosive. the same quality of writing remains but the story develops into something much larger with alot of exciting twists and turns, treachery, and evolving plot lines. the language itself alternates from scene to scene and it seems to convey as much urgency or action as needed and then slows and becomes more languid when the story becomes quiet.
When i look back at how it turned out, i think this couldnt have gone any better. In Conner i thought we had a firm layout of myth and the lore surrounding the story but Erin comes across as much of a challenge to what was laid out in the first story as much as it does reinforce it. its complicated sounding but the second story really does take you in a whole new direction to ultimately come around, and what we end up with is something very refreshing at the end.
if i could say anything about this to help others decide on whether or not to firstly get Conner and then read Erin, i would simply say that this is on the not to be missed list for the kindle.

Ya got me!

I must admit that before I read this book I wasn't much of an avid fan of paranormal fantasies with werewolves in particular. But and thtat's a big but my mind has been changed recently after reading another book written by Miranda called Craving. Although that was more on the steamier side which is why I bought it in the first place I enjoyed her work enough to want to read Erin. I'm glad that I did! Miranda has done a good job in taking me away from my realities and placing me in a world where werewolves exist. She was able to seduce me into her fictional fantasy and because of that I applaud her.
This story had my mind questioning will she won't she on several occasions and that's what kept me intrigued.
Over all I can say that I am becoming a fan of this genre and I will recomend this book to anyone who loves to read about werewolves. :)

WOW..........all I can say is WOW....I loved everything about this story, especially since it was my first experience with Conner & Erin.
This is my first Miranda Stork experience, and I am glad I jumped on this book, I now know what everyone else is talking about when it comes to Conner....HOT HOT HOT!!!!!! Let's just say I have added a new fictional crush to my list............thank you Miranda Stork for a great story and for those of us who haven't read the Conner story, you- explained enough in this one to keep us wanting more of your work...Beautifully written, flowed with ease and just kept you wanting more and more..........

Change is coming, ready or not

Tomorrow's legal world bears little resemblance to that of the past, according to Richard Susskind in this book. The next two decades will bring more changes to legal institutions and lawyers than have the last two centuries. While traditional job opportunities for young lawyers are diminishing, a whole range of exciting new legal occupations will soon be created.

First, the bad news. The changes in the legal profession coinciding with the global recession are here to stay. Even if and when the global economy recovers, the three main drivers of change will not be going away:

* The "more for less" challenge, in which companies have been putting pressure on their general counsel to cut legal budgets by 30 to 50 percent
* Liberalisation, which is allowing people who are not qualified as lawyers to provide particular types of legal services
* Information technology, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated so that computers can perform tasks that previously required skilled lawyers

To cope with the "more for less" challenge, law firms have tried charging less and alternative fee arrangements, but these efforts fail to achieve the cost reductions demanded by clients. The only two viable strategies, according to the author, are the efficiency strategy (which finds ways of cutting the costs of legal service) and the collaboration strategy (which involves clients sharing the costs of particular legal services). These strategies will require the breaking down of legal services into standard parts and custom parts, with the standard parts being commoditised and outsourced, in-sourced or computerised.

Courts will also experience radical changes, as access-to-justice issues are resolved not through higher levels of funding but through greater use of information technology. We can expect to see a whole range of online legal services including virtual courts and online dispute resolution. There will be new types of legal jobs, such as legal knowledge engineers, legal technologists, legal project managers, and online dispute resolution practitioners.

As with any predictions of the future, those relating to the immediate future based on currently observable trends are more likely to be accurate than those relating to the more distant future. Nonetheless, I found this to be a fascinating and easy-to-read book, which should be of great interest to anyone involved in law firm management.

Essential reading for lawyers of today and tomorrow.

Want to understand where the legal profession is heading and changing? This book provides strategic insight regarding answers to that question. Although published in 2012, it is relevant through 2020 and many of the early observations and predictions in the book have begun to occur between now and when the book first was published. I think it is particularly useful for General Counsel and senior corporate/organizational in- house lawyers to understand, develop and effectively and efficiently deploy multi-sourced legal services for their client organizations.

About the Author
Oliver Luckett is a technology entrepreneur and currently CEO of ReviloPark, a global culture accelerator. He has served as Head of Innovation at the Walt Disney Company and co-founder of video sharing platform Revver. As CEO of theAudience, Luckett worked with clients such as Obama for America, Coachella, Pixar, and American Express. He has helped managed the digital personae of hundreds of celebrities and brands, including Star Wars, The Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki, and Toy Story 3.

Michael Casey is a writer and researcher in the fields of economics, culture, and information technology. He is the author of three critically-acclaimed books: The Age of Cryptocurrency (2015), The Unfair Trade (2012), and Che's Afterlife (2009). In a two-decade career as a journalist, much of that spent as a reporter, editor, and columnist at The Wall Street Journal, he wrote extensively on global economics and finance. Refreshing perspective

First of all, as someone who rarely reads books for entertainment, I really enjoyed this one. Besides being well written and structured, it throws some interesting ideas out there that have definitely made me look a bit differently at social media. Second, as someone who works with social media, you often find yourself guilty of focusing altogether on the details, the data, the algorithms. This book, however, gave me an opportunity to step back and look at the wider image of the social network. Very refreshing.

One of the best reads of the past decade. Which is longer than the world of Social Media we now live in. Great historical perspective, but more importantly points the way forward of how to navigate the fast paced social media world we are turning into.

Its OK...not pathbreaking.

Its a good book - NOT a great book.

Worth one time read.

I was able to finish it one sitting. Thankfully, not too fat!

The authors seem to go too much in biology trying compare social media with a living organism.

The last 2 chapters about future were a bit dramatic and boring.

If you are a into social media marketing like me, there is not much to take home from here.

If you are just curious about the phenomenon of social media, this book does help.

I would not say reading this book is a waste of time but I would not call it a path breaking book either!

A Letter from Author Mark Peter Hughes
Not long after my second novel, Lemonade Mouth, was published in 2007, I got a strange and unexpected phone call at home from a Hollywood producer named Debra Martin Chase. Debra is the producer who made the movies The Princess Diaries, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and The Cheetah Girls, among many others. As I stood there with the phone to my ear and my jaw hanging open, she told me that she’d read and loved Lemonade Mouth, and that even though she didn’t yet have a deal in place, she was determined to make a movie out of my book.

I couldn’t have been more astonished if it had started raining lemons.

I wrote Lemonade Mouth, the story of five high-school freshman outsiders who meet in detention, form an unlikely band, and start a revolution destined to change the world, because I’ve played in bands and know something about what it’s like. Each member of the band called Lemonade Mouth--Stella, Olivia, Mo (Mohini), Charlie, and Wen--are different parts of me. Stella is a shout-through-a-megaphone rule-breaker who wants to make a positive difference but doesn’t always get it right. That’s me. Olivia is shy and quiet and sometimes has a hard time talking about the important things. That’s me too, sometimes. What Mohini and I share is that we both straddle two different cultures. Mo’s family moved to the U.S. from India, while I was born in England, grew up here in America, and have often felt the crosscurrent like a hot dog floating in a cup of tea.

In the summer of 2010, the Disney Channel started filming its adaptation of my novel (turned out, Debra’s promise of “Determinate”-tion was more than just words), and my family and I were lucky enough to get to visit the set. The filmmakers and cast were warm and welcoming, and I have wonderful memories of those days.

What a surreal experience it was to stand among three hundred extras and watch talented actors perform a concert as characters I had created in my kitchen. At one point, when Hayley Kiyoko (who plays Stella) started calling out to the crowd about how everyone should be nice to each other--a speech that uses my own words and heartfelt convictions--I had a lump in my throat the size of Rhode Island. My wife actually burst into tears. Out of anyone on this planet, she knew best what this meant to me--to all of us.

I’m actually in the movie. I’m an extra in the Halloween Bash scene. Pretty much whenever you see the principal standing in the audience, look over his shoulder and you might notice a guy dressed like a bee. That’s me. It’s just a little thing, but it sure does make me happy.

Grade 6 Up–Five freshmen meet in detention one afternoon and begin to sing along with a radio jingle. Thus begins the story of Lemonade Mouth as told by the bandmates and friends in first-person diary/journal entries. No one likes to be known as the fat kid, the new kid, the nerd, or the freak, but these teens are empowered by their newly formed friendships and empower others as well. Rival band Mudslide Crush is no match for the funky style of Mo on bass, Charlie on the congas and timbales, Stella on ukelele, Wen on trumpet, and Olivia's vocals. School, family, and romance are all pressures building in these teens' lives, and forming the band helps them to cope with the world. They meet in the school basement, where other geek clubs have also been relegated, and their mascot is the Mel's Frozen Lemonade machine in the hallway. One day, it is removed, and Stella and her friends protest when they find out that a soda company has signed an exclusive deal with the administration to sell only their company's products in exchange for a new sports scoreboard. When Lemonade Mouth plays the school Halloween bash, they bring up the lemonade-machine issue, causing a student riot and ending with the musicians back in detention. When they are told that they cannot play in the talent show as punishment, other students call for their reinstatement. When five freshmen at Opoquonsett High in Rhode Island find themselves in detention, they form an impromptu band composed of unusual instruments (including a ukulele) and perform quirky tunes inspired by dentist jingles and dying cats. Their music earns them local fame. Hughes tells the story of the band, Lemonade Mouth, through alternating, first-person narratives by the band members, strung together with a fan's additional narrative that chronicles the band's many misadventures. Different fonts and radically different verbal styles help identify the six different voices and make the long story easy to follow. A side plot involving a student-led fight to save the school's one organic frozen-lemonade machine adds nonconformist ideology and supplies the band's name. Hughes' obvious musical knowledge contributes greatly to the verisimilitude; young musicians into indie music will appreciate this romp, which includes some satisfying romantic moments and many epiphanies as the band members work out their individual problems by working together. LEMONADE MOUTH is the story of five socially-struggling high school freshman who come together through a combination of chance and the wisdom of a sorely misused music teacher to form the legendary band, Lemonade Mouth. It all begins on the afternoon when the five students end up in Freshman Detention which is scheduled in the dungeon-like basement classroom of the aforementioned music teacher, Mrs. Reznik.

There is Stella who has begun her freshman year at Opoquonsett High in Rhode Island as the new kid in town. A frustrated student in a family of geniuses and step-geniuses, her mom's new research job has taken Stella unwillingly across the country. She has landed herself in detention for an act of rebellion in response to having previously been sent home for wearing a tee-shirt whose artwork had never been at issue in her old school back in Arizona. But the vice principal has told her, " 'Opoquonsett High doesn't have a dress code, exactly. It's just that we have an unwritten line and that shirt crosses it.' " (As my friend Skeezie Tookis would say, "What kind of stinkin' rule is that?")

There is Wen who is struggling with his feelings regarding his father's buxom twenty-something girlfriend, Sydney. In regard to the humiliating incident in social studies that has landed him in Mrs. Reznik's room, receiving detention as a result of that debacle is the absolute least of Wen's problems.

Mohini must be considered the least likely of the quintet to be in any kind of trouble. The overachieving daughter of immigrants, she has recently exchanged "a lifetime of social obscurity," along with her consistent obedience to her father's strict rules and to her own long-range school and career Plan, for the thrill of being seen around school with an older student who is both a popular soccer star and part of the band Mudslide Crush. It was he who persuaded Mo to skip her Independent Study class; they were subsequently seen and reported.

Meanwhile, Charlie is struggling with his obsession over how fate chose him to be born fine while his identical twin Aaron was stillborn as the result of being strangled by the umbilical cord. Charlie perceives Aaron as a harsh voice in his head who constantly points out what a failure Charlie is. In this instance, he has ended up in Mrs. Reznik's room through his failure to properly aim the spitball that was meant to retaliate for the one with which a renowned school bully had just nailed him in the face.

Finally, Olivia has spent most of her life living with her grandmother after her mother abandoned the family and her struggling father was convicted of murder in a failed store robbery. She finds herself in detention with Stella, Wen, Mo, and Charlie for skipping American lit, where she was facing another in the series of chapter quizzes that "strip away the fun of a good book." Instead of going to class, she gets caught hiding out reading the rest of the book.

Together, as a result of an incident in detention and the subsequent encouragement of Mrs. Reznik, the five pool their hidden talents -- musical and otherwise -- to become the pride of the unsung average and oft-picked on kids at their high school and far beyond it. And, as might be said, the rest is musical history.

Not for pre-teens

I haven't read this entire book but bought it for my 12 year old son for his birthday as his first kindle book. He and my 17 year old daughter had seen the Disney movie and loved it. While reading the first chapter, he came in to me and said that this book was not appropriate for him. After reading graphic details of one of the boys interest in his father's 26 year old girlfriend and her body and describing the nude pictures he had found of her, my son knew this was probably not the kind of book he should be reading. The boy in the book then went on to detail what happened in his pants as he obviously was quite stimulated by these pictures. Even my 17 year old said she couldn't believe Disney would pick this book to make a movie out of, knowing that young kids would also read the book. The book may be great for older kids, maybe 15 or so. But I really don't think what my son read was appropriate for 12 year olds. I did not see any other review that describes these kinds of things, so hopefully this will help someone else not waste their money.

This energetic book begins as a playful story, but develops into something completely different. Five freshman at Opequonsett High School all have certain unconventional aspects of their lives that pull us in. These five characters create a strong but unlikely bond. As their band Lemonade Mouth blossoms so do they. Wen, Stella, Mohini, Charlie, and Olivia begin a band that changes their school and alomost everyone in it. What begins as fun during detention turns into a serious commitment that will have everyone talking. Although some issues may seem trivial [like an organic frozen lemonade machine, a cat lover's sadness, or probably the first ukele ever used in a rock band], this novel addresses issues that some people are still afraid to face. Mark Peter Hughes once again amazes us all with his talents as a writer: his uncanny knack for worming his way into many teens' minds and ability of turning our daily occurrences into something profound. This is a book is a must-read and will leave everyone cheering for an encore.
