Good for the layperson, great for the student

Miller's book was a required text for an interior design theory class I took at the University of FLorida. My professor was a contributing author of the book (some of her work appears in it--Dr. M. Jo Hasell), so she knew the material well. Even without her knowledge, though, the book was informtaive and well illustrated to describe many color theories. There is a good deal on perception as well as explanation of the color wheel and its concepts (e.g.,complementary colors). I see this book as an invaluable resource for those studying interior design or architecture, and I find it also to be illuminating for those simply trying to understand and incorporate color into their surroundings. I would recommend it as a foundation to redecorating one's own house or work space.

For people who are seeking information on color, what it represents and in what environments should it be used, i fully recomend it. It has a lot of information concerning this topic, and it has very well taken photographs that are well-explained in text.

beggars can't be choosers

This book saved my GPA. Here's the thing: I HATE Milton. I can't get through 20 lines without wanting to chuck the book out the window, let alone all 12 books of Paradise Lost. But I'm getting an MA in English and I had to take the class, so this book saved my grade and maybe even more than that, considering Milton makes me want to walk into oncoming traffic.

The "translation" is absolutely awful from an aesthetic, literary perspective, though. There were some passages that made me laugh out loud, and believe me, Paradise Lost is not meant to be a comedy. True, the translation is meant to be read side by side with the original text, but I did not have time for that--I just needed to get the gist and move on with my life. Still, I was able to write a 25 page paper on Paradise Lost having only read this translation. I simply highlighted passages that were relevant to my argument, and then consulted the original text by matching up the line numbers so I could quote. Piece of cake.

If you're looking for an aesthetic experience, you can do better. But if you just need to get the job done--if Milton is being forced upon you and you'd rather claw out your own eyeballs than read him--this will work just fine.

What a great book, very lamen, but still great, a great way for you to grasp the concept of the original "Lost Paradise". The original to me is the the King James Version where this book was very New Living Translation. Makes me want to go back and read the original now that have a grasp on the book.

Most encouraging book on ministry partner developement in years

This book has the best combination of Bibical content and real life application of anything I have ever read when it comes to developing and cultivating a team of ministry partner. Steve hits the nail on the head when it comes to sharing your ministry with passion and urgency in the power of the Holy Spirit. I personally ordered 100 copies for the staff in our ministry because I am convinced it will revolutionize their support raising efforts. Thank you Steve for sharing your heart.

Challenged, Motivated, Inspired

Rather you're going into full-time ministry or not this book is for you! Steve Shadrach has the unique ability to zoom out and bring perspective into any reader. This book allowed me to gain a proper perspective on giving and asking. I have a deeper desire to increase my giving. Also, having recently committed to full-time ministry, I am no longer scared or intimidated to raise my support. Instead I am excited to devote myself to implementing the God Ask!!!

Good, but I have a hard time understanding what ministry the author does if he is busy doing everything outlined in this book

This was a great book.
I have been living abroad since 2009, and have struggled sometimes with raising and maintaining monthly support. I first read "Funding Your Ministry" by Scott Morton when I left for the mission field, and started implementing some of the things that author outlined in that book. I've even lent my copy to others.
Recently for my birthday I shared my Kindle Wishlist on Facebook and one of my supporters bought me a copy of this book as I had hoped to get it.
As I started to read it, I noticed that in the beginning the author drives home the concept of praying about who to ask, so as to not waste all your time asking and asking and asking potential supporters. In fact, after our latest newsletter prior to starting this book, my wife and I had prayed and asked God for names to put on a list of people we were going to start asking, and immediately the first four approached us before we could ask and tell us they felt led to support us. This helped confirm for us that if we commit this to the Lord, he's probably speaking to the hearts of those we feel compelled to ask. Reading this book lit a fire of boldness in us to start contacting others ASAP.

So, with that in mind, here's some thoughts:

First, the positive:
--I felt VERY encouraged, and a gentle slap on the butt to get going and do a better job maintaining *relationship* with my supporters. I found the tips and suggestions in this book to be invaluable.
--The 11 appendices at the end of the book are what truly make this book worth the money. Morton's Funding Your Ministry book has similar ones, but since I have that book in paperback and this one by Shadrach in Kindle format, being able to just click on them and get them from the internet directly is faster and more convenient.
--There truly isn't anything unbiblical or unethical in this book, in my humble opinion. So there's no "bones" to spit out and reject in terms of take the good leave the bad. There seems to be little to no bad that needs to be ignored.
--I feel a renewed sense of confidence and initiative to view my supporters as **partners** with me instead of 'donors' or 'supporters'. I kinda already did, but this book helped solidify that for me
--I have new ideas I'm already starting to implement.

The negative/questions I had after reading:
--Most of this will be relevant and applicable to people beginning their support raising journey more so than those of us who have already made it overseas. Some of us who are already on the field just simply **can't** drive a few hours to another state or province to spend time or go for lunch with our supporters. Some of us can't really afford (yet) the ability to just call or text random partners on our cell phones as the author does. But contrary to the author's suggestions, Skype/iChat and long-distance phone calls will have to do the trick until/unless the overseas missionary is on furlough and back in their home country.
--Which leads to my next question about how on earth the author actually does any ministry if he truly and honestly does **everything** all the time as he outlines in this book! One of the other commenters suggested that this author appears to be a "career" fund raiser, always raising new support. I didn't quite get that suspicious of a vibe reading this book, and did not expect the book to outline what ministry he does since the goal of this book was to help people raise support.
--I also don't think I come to the same conclusion or agree with the author's downplaying of tentmaking ministry. In fact, from having done considerable research on the subject, I feel the author is simply mistaken in his assessment of the apostle Paul's life. Which leads to another concern of mine that people swing the pendulum from one extreme or the other when it comes to being working instead of raising support. While I agree with the author that if you had some kind of money-making income that caused you to not need to raise support or trust God the same way for finances, you will miss out on ways that such fund-raising helps build your character and increase your faith to trust the Lord to provide, but who is to say God can't or doesn't do the same type of work in our hearts through starting businesses or other things. Well this won't be a very popular review among many who know me. Change some names, change some places - this book is the story of my life. I read it in one day, cried several times, and am thankful that Elizabeth Coleman was brave enough to write it.

I read the book in one sitting! Elizabeth describes her childhood inside the cult and her love for God and family but most importantly how God led her to faith in Christ alone. Aside from the excellent details about doctrinal beliefs, she has done an incredible job of explaining the emotional, spiritual, mental and physical stress that it takes to leave the Two by Two fellowship. I praise God that someone has written a book that covers all the bases. Elizabeth has gumption. She never backed down from the workers' on a face to face conversation. She describes situations, people, emotions, places and events with such accuracy that you can feel them. She gives her story from a woman's perspective which is different and perhaps more difficult than a man's experience. Women and girls have more rules to follow and are more visible in demonstrating the mind control; which proves they believe the Lie or not. And women are usually more attached to their family of origin and want to please their parents with all their hearts. Whether one is a man or woman makes no difference....the 2x2 "spirit" destroys one's identity and will. The workers use the devotion people feel towards their family to leverage their power in the members' lives. One must overcome deep attachments, just as Jesus said in Matthew 10:37, "He that loves father and mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that takes not his cross and follows me is not worthy of me." This book should be on every Ex 2x2's shelf and on their gift list.

Christian pastors need to read this book to help them understand the trauma experienced by someone raised under mind control. The statistics show how few ex-cultists ever come to faith in Christ simply because they have been so confused and abused by demonic doctrines.

Vance fans, add this to your reading list.

Mixed bag of Vance stories, some better than others, but all Vance, so all too good to miss. Vance's strength lies in longer fiction, where he can more fully create his world for us to experience, but I'm glad I read this collection because you can see how he wrote before he found that novels were his venue.

Thanks to those Vance fans who brought us this and other of his formerly lost works.

A tasty set of stories, while excellent by themselves, are better served with the following of a generous helping of the fun stuff like Cugal's Saga or Rhialto the Marvellous.

A very raunchy book

This book is a fantasy about a female doctor who discovers a world of BDSM.
Along with a very believable story with some poignant moments there are a plethora of well described and deeply erotic bondage and torture experiences.
It is great to read a story which explores a submissive woman's acceptance of a relationship in which she agrees to accept everything that her master decides to subject her to.
The only problem that I found in reading this book was that I got so turned on as I read it that I needed to take "Time out".
It is a book that couples could read together and it would very likely get them thinking of exciting things that they could do together.
An interesting part of the book is that the heroine gives her master carte blanch to subject her to anything that he wishes to do with her knowing that he has previous experience and will not do anything that is physically dangerous. She knows that if she placed safeguards in place, like a safe-word, she would be able to "chicken out" and almost certainly would before experiencing the magic of a deeply powerful erotic BDSM experience.
An amusing aside of the book is the funny way that the author deals with the many differences in the way Americans speak and the way Australians speak and their way of life.
This book is a serious work well over 100k words in length and would be a great read even if it were not for the deeply erotic sections. I have never experienced an erotic novel that has the depth of this work

Nonconsensual BDSM

On the face of it this is a straight-forward novel about the introduction of a new sub, Jacqui, to BDSM by a Dom, Andrew. What is unbelievable, is that the Author describes the Dom as refusing to let Jacqui use a safe word! The notion of a new sub, planning to scene for the first time with a man she has only recently met with no safe word goes against the principles of safe, sane and consensual that any responsible Dom would accept. The potential for severe legal action against the author and publisher is high. Amazon should not be selling this book. I have returned the book to Amazon.
