PERHAPS TOO TECHNICAL FOR THE NAKED LAYMAN; AN EXCELLENT SURVEY OF INCARNATIONAL THEOLOGY

Certainly I find reading this a bit thick without the gentle assistance of a supportive professor and the force of raging theological classmates, but perhaps you will do better with this excellent if highly academic, but very real text.

God is alive today within our Body, and we so often now forget this truth and denigrate ourself and one another, when we are actually tearing down with insult, torture and homicide the Temple erected by Jesus Christ and God the Creator, rather than receiving one another, including the stranger, with love, humility, compassion, profound respect and gentleness as commanded.

This excellent book, published in Britain (ironically by the Cromwell Press) and in the USA by Eerdman over ten years ago, weaves into one whole and seamless cloth the theological thought of Father Karl Rahner (as in Mary, Mother of the Lord: Theological meditations), Father Charles Curran (as from Themes in Fundamental Moral Theology) , then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (from his Communio article "Concerning the Notion of Person in Theology" of 1990) and much from then Pope John Paul II, including Original Unity of Man and Woman Catechesis on the Book of Genesis, and his Reflections on Humanae vitae: Conjugal morality and spirituality, as well as several others from this very prolific and productive Pope.

We find reflection on a wide spectrum of theological authorities, from John Courtney Murray'ds The Problem of God: Yesterday and Today (The St. Thomas More Lectures Series) to Sainte Therese of Lisieux's Histoire d'une ame: Manuscrits autobiographiques, drawing for us a comprehensive understanding of the mystery of the Incarnation in which we now today take part.

Please take and read carefully this excellent study of Body Theology, of under two hundred pages, which I would need and love a full semester of careful professorial guidance to understand and appreciate. Lucky are those faithful seminarians who now study under Sister Mary Timothy; I would give anything, including thirty wasted years of my life, to sit behind one of their sacred desks.

Please do not confuse this work with the several others inspired by Pope John Paul, such as Theology Of The Body For Beginners (subtitled A Basic Introduction to Pope John Paul II's Sexual Revolution, and perhaps more accessible to the layman than this present text, as the reviews there are very positive). IT can never become confused with the bizarre and Protestant Introducing Body Theology (Feminist Theology Series), which serves a separate agenda.

As seen by the references mentioned here, this present work is strictly orthodox and ever very close and committed to the Vatican, as is its author, a Catholic seminary professor of theology and spirituality.

Everyone, everyone, look unto me! I posses the Ultimate Fan Guide! I have seen the wondrous pages, and you will envy me, as though I were a victorious red and not a dirty blue! I regret nothing about buying this book, for I have purchased a guide which few fans have dared to buy! My fanatic quest is over. I can read Caboose's wisdom. It's so... stupid.

This is the best ultimate fan guide... of all time.

A must-have for the RvB fan - just make sure you've watched through S13 first!

Whether you've been a loyal follower of the Reds and Blues since the early days of Blood Gulch or you've only recently discovered the franchise, you're sure to enjoy this guidebook. Yes, most of the information about everyone's favorite hilariously incompetent space marines can be found at online wikis for free, but that's not the point. The point is that this book presents all of that (let's face it, often convoluted and confusing) information in a well-written, well-organized, and highly entertaining manner, while offering enough brand new material to keep readers from feeling ripped off.

One giant warning: INSIDE THERE BE SPOILERS. I mean, this should be obvious from the "guidebook" title, I suppose, but from the very first pages, major series plot twists are revealed and discussed in depth without much fanfare, so if you haven't finished watching all 13 seasons of this amazing show yet, you might want to hold off on purchasing/opening this book, just to avoid ruining all the great surprises that are still in store for you.

If I have one small complaint, it is that the book focuses heavily on the Freelancer and Chorus portions of the series while treating the Blood Gulch years as little more than background information. Don't get me wrong; I love the direction and scope the storyline took in the later seasons, but I would have appreciated more content devoted especially to the series' quirky, meandering beginnings.

All in all, though, this book is a must have for any true RvB fan. Makes a great gift for the holidays!

About the Author
Mesut Ozil was born in 1988 to Turkish parents at Gelsenkirchen in what was then West Germany. An attacking midfielder, his professional career began with home-town team Schalke 04 and led him to Werder Bremen and Real Madrid before he joined Arsenal for a club-record GBP42.5m in 2013. His honours include FA Cup success with Arsenal, a Spanish title with Real and the German Cup at Bremen. A five-time Player of the Year in Germany, he made his debut for the national team aged 20 and was a member of their World Cup-winning side in 2014.

I first saw mesut ozil playing for Germany against Argentina at the Cape Town stadium in fifa 2010 w.c. It was admiration at first sight for me....I told my 20yr old daughter.....watch this player if u want to appreciate classy football
As a Muslim I am also appreciative of his Humility
When he joined arsenal....I rejoiced

SAMPRIT CHATTERJEE, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Statistics at New York University. A Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Dr. Chatterjee has been a Fulbright scholar in both Kazakhstan and Mongolia. He is the coauthor of Regression Analysis by Example, Sensitivity Analysis in Linear Regression, and A Casebook for a First Course in Statistics and Data Analysis, all published by Wiley.

Jeffrey S. Simonoff, PhD, is Professor of Statistics at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business of New York University. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute. He has authored or coauthored more than ninety articles and five books on the theory and applications of statistics.

My experience so far...

First, I’d like to say I have no doctorate in child behavior and the only expertise I can actually share in raising a child/children is my personal experience with my own.

I was first introduced to this book by my child’s pediatrician. They recommended this book b/c there were some serious attitude that had me concerned about my child at 18 months old. He would throw some serious fits to the point that he would develop a petechia rash on his face; he’d hit, bite, and pinch. I have no idea where he learned these awful behaviors from and I’m not gonna lie ~ it terrified me. I didn’t want to raise that kind of child, nor did I want to have that ‘kid’ in daycare. I wasn’t into the idea of spanking him. I felt that would just escalate the violence that he was already lashing out with.

So, after reading the book and careful consideration, we tried this form of discipline.

I’m not going to say that this book is the end all to bad behavior, nor is it some magical solution with raising a willful, stubborn child. My kid is almost 2 ½ yrs old, he is still constantly pushing his limits, and testing everything, and everyone. I’ve probably read this book once but I have refreshed/skimmed thru it several times in the past year. With saying that, idk if I’m in love with this book or if I just like it. My son still lashes out occasionally, but on less of an occasion that he did before. I’m giving it some more time, b/c it seems to be working… via the long route. But, who ever said that raising kids would be easy and full of short cuts?

While I do believe that every parent will have a different child with a different personality, this method might not be for everyone. But for us, right now, this is the method that we have chosen to go with and it seems to be working.

I also have downloaded and keep a summary pdf that I’ve found online of this book on hand for reference for baby sitters as well as family that I leave my child with.

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to leave this link here but if you google csgreeley.org 1 2 3 magic summary a pdf will come up – it’s 8 pages long and I feel like it’s the best way to make sure everyone that watches my child is on the same page as me. The Ultimate Book For Parents

Almost 16 years ago, I purchased my first copy of this book. I will tell you it changed everything in terms of behavior issues I was having with my 3 year old (at the time) daughter. Since then I have purchased probably 15 copies of this book to give to parents having the same issues with their kids acting out, not following directions, throwing fits in stores, the I want stage, the mine stage, getting homework done, studying, picking up after themselves etc., etc.

After purchasing this book, and following the principles outlined without deviation, I only had to spank my daughter one time in the 16 years that followed. She's now 19 years old, such a well balanced young woman, in her third year in college.

I can tell you, if you have challenges with your kids and you follow consistently the directions in this book, you will have such a better relationship with your children. I have read people that say a lot of negatives about this book, but the book is NOT designed to replace being a parent. It opens up a world of opportunity for you to actually learn to communcate with your children, give them all the affection they need, teach them how to communicate with you, early and often. The process in this book establishes boundaries which then allow you, as the parent, to explore your relationships and more effectively communicate and love one another as a family.

If you don't talk to your children and love on your children, this book may "help" solve some acting out issues, but it will not help solve the root problem which may be your child crying out for your attention. Combine the process in the book with communication and love. Do this, and your relationship with your children will be so much better and your children will one day thank you, just like mine.....

A Gold Mine of Database Systems Topics

The book is an outstanding compilation of influential database papers in the database world. Most of the papers are readable for a senior undergraduate audience, or a graduate audience, but probably not for a first course in database systems, simply because students would need a decent understanding of database principles to fully appreciate the contents of this book.

In particular, I like the introductory commentary that Hellerstein and Stonebraker provide for each of the chapters. These are very nice summaries, and they also provide a teaser for the papers that follow in the chapter, and they justify why those papers were included. Both of the editors have the background to speak authoritatively on the subject of database systems, including OS, network, and architectural issues. The editors are not afraid to make prophetic comments about the direction of database research, and the challenges ahead, especially with respect to the Internet and the explosion of data.

I love the two introductory papers by Stonebraker and Hellerstein: "What Goes Around Comes Around" (about 40 pages), and "Anatomy of a Database System" (about 50 pages). The first is a summary of the major models of a DBMS: hierarchical, network, and relational; followed by other models of a DBMS, database, or data: entity-relationship, extended relational, semantic, object-oriented, object-relational, and semi-structured (XML). I intend to give this paper as a reading assignment to my senior undergrads (part of a 2nd database course).

The Anatomy paper is a wonderful overview of a DBMS from a systems perspective (e.g., buffering, I/Os, threads, dispatching, bottlenecks,
hardware architectures, parallelism, query rewriting, optimization, etc.) I'll have to see how this paper fits into the scheduling of the course topics before assigning it, since many of its topics require an understanding of both systems and database principles for full appreciation.

This book is definitely a keeper on my shelf. I'll revisit it many times.

Excellent readings in DB design

I am somewhat biased in that I'm taking a course which is co-taught by Hellerstein, however if you're looking to complete understand how database or transaction management systems: this will be an invaluable source of information.

Crammed into this book are a number of papers detailing the history and state of database design as it has evolved over the last 40years, including most of the semainal papers in the field.

Don't expect to read this sucker cover-to-cover, take your time, but it's a good compilation.

Timeless classic. Collection of classic papers and some recent ones. Also there is a superb introduction to all parts of a database. Moreover a nice commentary about recent state of affairs and how some nosql products have parallels decades back.

A deck that focuses on the good (not the bad and the ugly) aspects of life...and what's wrong with that?!

I can't believe I haven't reviewed any previous decks by Colette Baron Reid (as there are a number of them I own, I read quite frequently, and that I have purchased for others as gifts). There is a couple reasons this did not earn five stars from me (more on that in a moment). I find this deck is mostly suited for personal exploration. It is positive and affirming and look at the good side of all cards in the Tarot. Unlike some of the author's other decks, there are no reverse interpretations.

First...the nitty-gritty about this deck. This is a full 78-card Tarot deck with a major and minor arcana. The majors are numbered 0-21. Card titles are mostly the same with the exception of the following: Love = Lovers, Fortune's Wheel = Wheel of Fortune, Transformation = Death, Patience = Temperance, Temptation = Devil, Call = Judgement. Minor Arcana suits are: Air = Swords, Water = Cups, Earth = Pentacles, and Fire = Wands. Court cards are: Pages, Messengers = Knights, Queens and Kings.

Majors focus as normal on major themes or lessons. Court cards reflect attitudes/states of mind and, of course, can represent people or aspects of a personality that may be influencing a situation. Overall, the book gives a nice brief background on the arcanas and card suits. All interpretations are personalized to the reader ("All that glitters isn't gold, I know that I always deserve authentic riches, the gold that fills me with joy, abundance, and understanding"--from interpretation for the 8 of Water). This makes it an ideal deck for personal explorations and affirmation work.

The artwork has a soft, dreamy, magical quality. I like the artistic interpretation of the hermit, for example.There is no wise old man walking with a cane and a lantern. There is light shining on what appears to be a door (with a kingly face on it). There are keys hanging above the door to choose from. You have to look around a bit to discover where the keyhole is. It's there, and I wonder why I missed it the first time. I like the symbology behind this image as it seems to fit well with what the traditional hermit stands for.

The art doesn't work for me with some of the cards. Death (Transformation), for example, I can't see exactly what is in the girl in the picture's hands (I assume it is something transforming into something else). But my old eyes just can't make it out. The Emperor, Love (Lovers), and the Strength cards all feature lions prominently. The size of the cards is also a problem, as some other reviewers have indicated. They are wide and difficult for my small, somewhat arthritic hands to shuffle.

I also wish there was a little more meat to these interpretations or that there were reverse interpretations. While I have no problem with Baron-Reid's positive, happy approach to interpreting the Tarot, I do disagree with her about reversals. She mentions that most people get discouraged with reversals, so she did not include them. While that is true, a number of reversed tarot cards are actually more positive when reversed than when they appear upright. I think that added nuance would've been helpful and reversals could have all been cast in a positive light as well. There is nothing to fear in a negative card as they are lessons we must all face. She does a magnificent job taking negative cards in the deck (such as the 10 of Swords, 3 of Swords, or the 5 of Pentacles) and showing us the light illuminating or emanating from these so-called dark moments in our lives.

I feel this deck is more suitable for meditation, exploring in depth changes you are undergoing or contemplating, counseling yourself or others, and for a daily affirmation. I will probably rarely read for others with this deck, but will find it useful in my personal divination work. If you want a deck to work with for personal oracle work this is probably right for you. If you are new to the Tarot, you may want to seek out a more traditional deck first and become more familiar with the cards if you plan on reading for both yourself and others.

This deck meets expectations... and then some!

When I first saw that Colette Baron-Reid was doing a tarot deck, I hoped that it would be as amazing as her oracle decks. This deck is nothing short of beautiful and the energy in them is inspiring. This is not your standard tarot deck in the slightest. There are no negative or reverse meanings in the little book provided. She has taken the effort to take the more negative cards (Tower and Devil) and written them to have a more positive connotation. These cards are also written for the here and now, not vague "you may be going on a trip". Instead, she's changed it to, "I am travelling to new territories and am eager to experience all that this land has to offer me". She also takes the traditional suits to reflect the elements they represent:

Swords = Air
Cups = Water
Pentacles = Earth
Wands = Fire

The cards themselves are on good paper, aren't flimsy, won't tear, and are laminated. They are the size of her oracle cards, not standard tarot cards. They are definitely an uplifting favorite and give positive messages. It is definitely a GOOD tarot and worth purchasing.

This card deck maybe my favorite Colette card deck,so far but still not sure yet.I need to work with the deck more to know for sure.I see some card in the deck that are similar to cards that are in her other card decks and have an unusual look to it that I don't commonly see in card decks in general and the unusal look in most of the cards is beautiful.When I looked at many of the cards got me thinking of the House of The Dark Night card deck,but saw some of the Enchanted Map card deck and Wisdom Of The Oracle look to it as well.I will look at it some more and see if it's like Colette's Wisdom of Avalon and Wisdom of The Hidden Realm deck as well.If you like the look of her previous card decks you will like this.The only problem I have with this card deck is it's called Good Tarot and not sure why.I think it should have another name.Once I start working with the card deck I will contiue with my review.

First off before I contiue this review I noticed that many people say this deck is more of an oracle card deck then a tarot deck.I don't agree despite the fact that she renamed certain cards and reworded them to make them more positive I can personally use this card deck as a tarot card deck maybe combine it with her Wisdom of The Oracle deck to get more of an in-depth reading would be best.IIf people find that the definitions aren't as in-depth as one would like. mentioned in my previous review I see a little bit of the styles you can find in Colette's previous card decks,but I forgot to mention that you can see that in the card deck,but it also has a unique style of it's own as well and the cards are gorgeous.The booklet with the definition of each cards is short,sweet and beautifully written poetic like at times at least in my opinion,so if you don't mind that then this card deck is the one for you.The booklet could include more card deck spreads,but I don't mind it to much it's still great to look at and work with.I am very,very happy I decided to get this card deck and hopefully whoever reads this review is guided to get it as well.
