Wonderful story...for all ages!

I am in the process of reading everything written by Marc Thil which is available on Kindle. While written for young French readers, they are ideal for students of the language.
Of course no book is good for that purpose if it is not well written and does not draw you in. M Thil's works do exactly that. They are highly entertaining and present a good style of spoken and written French while doing so.
I am a very advanced learner with many decades of French studies but I still find them useful for keeping sharp. Any student beyond first semester, however, should be able to read and profit by them. They are straightforward, primarily in present tense, the you will see a conditional or past perfect at times. In any case, no difficult or rare forms but rather good everyday usage..

What kind of person steals a dog for profit? Grrr!

Another good book by Marc Thil. Once again three children are beset by an evil doer who thwarts their desire to return a lost dog back to it's rightful owner. As they say the story is in the telling what a delightful world the author spins. One where good knights and a dragon exist simultaneously, but where we are shown how the dragon may be defeated. Adults be warned: children are not stupid, so watch out! In the spirit of inclusivity, a 4th child joins the ranks with hopes for a good life full of friends, or at least three. I am sure young readers will enjoy this story.

Maria s'est donn�e la mort, dans le chalet d'�t� au bord du lac gel�. Elle n'avait pas support� la mort de sa m�re, survenue deux ans plus t�t, et le souvenir du suicide de son p�re, lorsqu'elle �tait encore enfant, la hantait. Il en faudrait plus pour d�courager le commissaire Erlendur d'aller voir s'il n'y a pas "anguille sous roche". D'autres disparitions �tranges, rest�es inexpliqu�es, le hantent lui aussi, celle de son jeune fr�re en particulier, disparu lors d'une temp�te de neige. Et s'il existait une vie apr�s la mort? Erlendur ne croit pas aux fant�mes mais bien des t�moignages sont assez troublants. Tel est le point de d�part d'une qu�te solitaire (Sigurdur Oli et la fid�le Elinborg sont curieusement absents de cet opus), qui va mener le lecteur au caeur d'une incroyable machination. Arnaldur Indridason poursuit son analyse au scalpel de l'�me humaine. Frissons garantis...

Hawley has successfully integrated the scattered theses of this wide-ranging discipline into a schematic whole.

The early human ecologists seized on the analogy of plant communities as a way of understanding urban communities. Hawley here maintains that the most important contribution to human ecology of the lexicons of plant and animal ecologies is the perspective of collective life as an adaptive process consisting in an interaction of environment, population, and organization. From the adaptive profess, he argues, emerges the ecosystem, a concept that serves as a common denominator for bioecology and human ecology.

Hawley has codified the theory of human ecology by a set of deductive hypotheses that establish its claims to coherence and comprehensiveness. His model charts a synthesis of ecological concepts ranging from adaptation and equilibrium through growth in temporal and spatial dimensions to convergence and openness. The essay underscores the critical importance of transportation and communication technology to the shaping of the human ecological system.

Powerful

I first read this book in college and it has stayed with me for the last 25 years. Through the various moves, I lost this book and am happy to have it back in my collection. When my children are old enough to read it, this will be the most important book they read and I hope it instills in them the same understanding of the potential for man's inhumanity to man as it instilled in me and I hope it keeps them keenly aware of when people begin to slide down that long and dangerous slippery slope. I also hope it teaches them the concept of true bravery and the value of fighting for something larger than oneself. In short, this book has the potential to make us all better people by exposing both the worst and the best that man can be. You can not read it and remain unchanged.

Excellent Book on the Civil Rights Journey

If I taught 20th century history I would include " Eyes On the Prize" as a key part of my course. High schools, colleges and Church groups should also use this book to guide any discussions on racism and the hisotry of the civil rights era. An excellent chronology with the necessary detail that lays out the start of the Civil rights journey through 1968. Well written, easily understood and based on facts this book identifies the long difficult fight for equality. The underlying truth that makes this book so good is that those who marched, conducted sit-ins and died used the US Constitution as the basis to right the wrongs of inequlaity and racism.

i especially like this book because, without bashing anybody, i think it allows those of us most often subject to the highlight reels, to get a glimpse at the humanity of the historical figures that we tend to glamorize. and that's certainly not to diminish anybody's accomplishments. but there's a certain kind of comfort and appreciation and hope in KNOWING that uncertainty and imperfection and HUMANness precludes GREATness... too.

The"Sukkulentenlexikon" represented the long-awaited reference work supportingboth Botanical Gardens as well as amateur or prof- sionalgrowers inthe navigation through succulent plant diversity. AnEnglish edition followedin 1975 as "Succulent Lexicon," and a revised German edition was publishedin 1981. This second edition hadbeen finished by Jacobsen s successor inKiel, Klaus Hesselbarth, who, with regard to the Asclepiadaceae, was supportedby the senior editor of the present publication. Over twentyyears have passed since then, and the knowlegdeof succulent plants has increased permanently. PERHAPS TOO TECHNICAL FOR THE NAKED LAYMAN; AN EXCELLENT SURVEY OF INCARNATIONAL THEOLOGY

Certainly I find reading this a bit thick without the gentle assistance of a supportive professor and the force of raging theological classmates, but perhaps you will do better with this excellent if highly academic, but very real text.

God is alive today within our Body, and we so often now forget this truth and denigrate ourself and one another, when we are actually tearing down with insult, torture and homicide the Temple erected by Jesus Christ and God the Creator, rather than receiving one another, including the stranger, with love, humility, compassion, profound respect and gentleness as commanded.

This excellent book, published in Britain (ironically by the Cromwell Press) and in the USA by Eerdman over ten years ago, weaves into one whole and seamless cloth the theological thought of Father Karl Rahner (as in Mary, Mother of the Lord: Theological meditations), Father Charles Curran (as from Themes in Fundamental Moral Theology) , then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (from his Communio article "Concerning the Notion of Person in Theology" of 1990) and much from then Pope John Paul II, including Original Unity of Man and Woman Catechesis on the Book of Genesis, and his Reflections on Humanae vitae: Conjugal morality and spirituality, as well as several others from this very prolific and productive Pope.

We find reflection on a wide spectrum of theological authorities, from John Courtney Murray'ds The Problem of God: Yesterday and Today (The St. Thomas More Lectures Series) to Sainte Therese of Lisieux's Histoire d'une ame: Manuscrits autobiographiques, drawing for us a comprehensive understanding of the mystery of the Incarnation in which we now today take part.

Please take and read carefully this excellent study of Body Theology, of under two hundred pages, which I would need and love a full semester of careful professorial guidance to understand and appreciate. Lucky are those faithful seminarians who now study under Sister Mary Timothy; I would give anything, including thirty wasted years of my life, to sit behind one of their sacred desks.

Please do not confuse this work with the several others inspired by Pope John Paul, such as Theology Of The Body For Beginners (subtitled A Basic Introduction to Pope John Paul II's Sexual Revolution, and perhaps more accessible to the layman than this present text, as the reviews there are very positive). IT can never become confused with the bizarre and Protestant Introducing Body Theology (Feminist Theology Series), which serves a separate agenda.

As seen by the references mentioned here, this present work is strictly orthodox and ever very close and committed to the Vatican, as is its author, a Catholic seminary professor of theology and spirituality.
