About the Author

Dr. Steven Beebe is Regents’ and University Distinguished Professor of Communication Studies at Texas State University. Dr. Beebe is serving in his 28th year as Chair of the Department of Communication Studies. He has served as Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication for 25 years. He is the author and co-author of twelve books, with most books in multiple editions.� He has authored or co-authored more than 60 articles and book chapters and made more than 150 presentations at regional, national, and international conferences.

Steve has been a visiting scholar at both Oxford University and Cambridge University and is a member of the Common Room of Wolfson College, Oxford University.� He has given lectures and presentations in Europe, Australia, Asia, South America and has made 14 trips to Russia where he has been instrumental in establishing the first communication courses there.

Dr. Beebe teaches courses in small group communication, communication training and development, pubic speaking, interpersonal communication and C. S. Lewis. He made international headlines in 2009 when he discovered a manuscript in the Oxford University library that was the opening chapter of a book that was to be co-authored by C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien.� He teaches a course about C. S. Lewis and Communication at Oxford University.

He was named Outstanding Communication Professor in America by the National Speaker’s Association, and has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Research, and the President’s Award for Excellence in Service—the highest research and service awards at Texas Stat.� Steve was also named Honors Professor of the Year at Texas State.� Steve and his wife Sue were named Outstanding Alumni by their Alma Mater, the University of Central Missouri.� He is currently President of the National Communication Association, the largest professional communication association in the world.

Dr. John Masterson is Executive Vice President and Provost emeritus of Texas Lutheran University.� He has taught Communication courses for over 30 years and has presented or published dozens of papers and articles as well as four books co-authored with Steven Beebe.� He has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors for his teaching, his scholarship, and his service.

Well-rounded text for group members at any level.

Communication is a very nuanced subject that requires years of experience and a continued desire for further refinements. In their book "Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices" authors Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson break down the technicalities of communication in small groups and teams and provide specific recommendations for improvement. "Communicating in Small Groups" was by far one of the most approachable texts in communication that I have ever encountered.

Beebe and Masterson break down the elements of group communication into digestible pieces that allow the reader to understand not only theory behind each element, but also the practice. The concepts are presented in three parts: "Foundations of Group and Team Communication", "Managing Group and Team Relationships", and "Managing Group and Team Tasks". Each segment of the text features examples of the ideas presented along with case studies that allow the reader to practice the concepts in context.

As with any textbook, the information is catered to a school audience (college-level in this particular example), but the text is approachable enough for use in any type of business training environment. Additionally the book provides a solid foundation for individuals looking to become more civically engaged by providing key leadership training, group participation advice, and examples on how to foster creative solutions. The information is easy to comprehend and the text is well referenced. I would recommend "Communicating in Small Groups" to anyone looking to improve their teamwork skills or those stepping into a leadership position within a group.

Purchased this book for my class of small group communications, it is a very good bood as it covers what one needs to know in small group communications, the chapters are clean but full of good information to help you become better in coimmunicating in small groups. The book has some very good case studies for you to work on and see what the results can be. It does the job very well for the course that it is used for.

A remarkable sequel

Sometimes, and im sure you have seen it in many movies and books, the sequel just doesnt have the same energy or it comes across as lacking in something. not this time, not with this story. if anything i would describe Erin as grander and more explosive. the same quality of writing remains but the story develops into something much larger with alot of exciting twists and turns, treachery, and evolving plot lines. the language itself alternates from scene to scene and it seems to convey as much urgency or action as needed and then slows and becomes more languid when the story becomes quiet.
When i look back at how it turned out, i think this couldnt have gone any better. In Conner i thought we had a firm layout of myth and the lore surrounding the story but Erin comes across as much of a challenge to what was laid out in the first story as much as it does reinforce it. its complicated sounding but the second story really does take you in a whole new direction to ultimately come around, and what we end up with is something very refreshing at the end.
if i could say anything about this to help others decide on whether or not to firstly get Conner and then read Erin, i would simply say that this is on the not to be missed list for the kindle.

Ya got me!

I must admit that before I read this book I wasn't much of an avid fan of paranormal fantasies with werewolves in particular. But and thtat's a big but my mind has been changed recently after reading another book written by Miranda called Craving. Although that was more on the steamier side which is why I bought it in the first place I enjoyed her work enough to want to read Erin. I'm glad that I did! Miranda has done a good job in taking me away from my realities and placing me in a world where werewolves exist. She was able to seduce me into her fictional fantasy and because of that I applaud her.
This story had my mind questioning will she won't she on several occasions and that's what kept me intrigued.
Over all I can say that I am becoming a fan of this genre and I will recomend this book to anyone who loves to read about werewolves. :)

WOW..........all I can say is WOW....I loved everything about this story, especially since it was my first experience with Conner & Erin.
This is my first Miranda Stork experience, and I am glad I jumped on this book, I now know what everyone else is talking about when it comes to Conner....HOT HOT HOT!!!!!! Let's just say I have added a new fictional crush to my list............thank you Miranda Stork for a great story and for those of us who haven't read the Conner story, you- explained enough in this one to keep us wanting more of your work...Beautifully written, flowed with ease and just kept you wanting more and more..........

Change is coming, ready or not

Tomorrow's legal world bears little resemblance to that of the past, according to Richard Susskind in this book. The next two decades will bring more changes to legal institutions and lawyers than have the last two centuries. While traditional job opportunities for young lawyers are diminishing, a whole range of exciting new legal occupations will soon be created.

First, the bad news. The changes in the legal profession coinciding with the global recession are here to stay. Even if and when the global economy recovers, the three main drivers of change will not be going away:

* The "more for less" challenge, in which companies have been putting pressure on their general counsel to cut legal budgets by 30 to 50 percent
* Liberalisation, which is allowing people who are not qualified as lawyers to provide particular types of legal services
* Information technology, which is becoming increasingly sophisticated so that computers can perform tasks that previously required skilled lawyers

To cope with the "more for less" challenge, law firms have tried charging less and alternative fee arrangements, but these efforts fail to achieve the cost reductions demanded by clients. The only two viable strategies, according to the author, are the efficiency strategy (which finds ways of cutting the costs of legal service) and the collaboration strategy (which involves clients sharing the costs of particular legal services). These strategies will require the breaking down of legal services into standard parts and custom parts, with the standard parts being commoditised and outsourced, in-sourced or computerised.

Courts will also experience radical changes, as access-to-justice issues are resolved not through higher levels of funding but through greater use of information technology. We can expect to see a whole range of online legal services including virtual courts and online dispute resolution. There will be new types of legal jobs, such as legal knowledge engineers, legal technologists, legal project managers, and online dispute resolution practitioners.

As with any predictions of the future, those relating to the immediate future based on currently observable trends are more likely to be accurate than those relating to the more distant future. Nonetheless, I found this to be a fascinating and easy-to-read book, which should be of great interest to anyone involved in law firm management.

Essential reading for lawyers of today and tomorrow.

Want to understand where the legal profession is heading and changing? This book provides strategic insight regarding answers to that question. Although published in 2012, it is relevant through 2020 and many of the early observations and predictions in the book have begun to occur between now and when the book first was published. I think it is particularly useful for General Counsel and senior corporate/organizational in- house lawyers to understand, develop and effectively and efficiently deploy multi-sourced legal services for their client organizations.
